Sabíamos que existía una remota posibilidad de poder ver la aurora boreal durante nuestro viaje a Islandia en agosto y que sería difícil, pero ¡lo logramos! Así que podemos confirmaros que es posible ver la aurora boreal en agosto.
Antes de viajar a Islandia estuvimos investigando por Internet y encontramos videos espectaculares de gente que había podido observar la aurora boreal a finales de agosto en Islandia y, con el deseo de volver a verla empezamos nuestro viaje. Recordábamos la sensación de cuando vimos la aurora boreal en Finlandia por primera vez durante nuestro viaje a Laponia con niños, una emoción que se instaló en nosotros y aún no nos ha abandonado. Sinceramente, una de las mejores experiencias que se pueden tener en la vida.
Consultábamos la web de la Oficina de Meteorología de Islandia, donde a parte del tiempo, también hay una predicción de auroras. Durante el mes de agosto, la actividad de auroras boreales es baja. La mejor época para ver auroras boreales es de Septiembre a Marzo, nosotros viajamos la última quincena de agosto, así que teníamos puesta la esperanza de poder verlas durante los últimos días del viaje, especialmente las últimas noches porque regresábamos a casa el día 2 de septiembre. Además, el video que encontramos en internet de auroras boreales en agosto en Islandia era del veintiséis de agosto del 2015, ¿por que no se iba a repetir este año?
Y vimos la aurora, vaya que si la vimos, porque fueron tres noches en las que la aurora boreal nos deleitó con su baile. Concretamente fueron las noches del 29 y 31 de agosto y la del 1 de septiembre, por si os sirve para programar el viaje si queréis ver auroras boreales. En Islandia el clima es muy cambiante, tanto que dicen que puedes tener las cuatro estaciones del año en un sólo día. La primera noche en Islandia que vimos la aurora boreal, durante el día el cielo estaba despejado pero al llegar la noche empezó a nublarse. Eso hizo que viéramos reflejos de la aurora boreal a través de las nubes, como unos focos detrás de una cortina.
Las siguientes dos noches el cielo estuvo despejado y vimos la aurora boreal en todo su esplendor. Además fue curioso porque en Finlandia la vimos enfrente de nosotros y en Islandia, la segunda noche, la aurora estaba encima de nosotros y la visión que se tiene es totalmente diferente. Cuando estás debajo de ella, la actividad solar es mucho más visible y se ven las pequeñas descargas de energía en forma de rayos.

Hola Teresa! En principio en cualquier punto de Islandia tienes opciones (por localización). Los factores que harán que la veas en un lugar u otro será el tiempo (varía mucho de un lugar a otro de la isla) así que tenéis que ir en busca de cielos despejados. Y el otro factor es que empiece a haber horas de oscuridad, así que a finales de agosto ya empiezas a tener opciones de verla, como nos pasó a nosotros que la vimos los últimos días de Agosto y primeros de Septiembre. ResponderEliminarNosotros fuimos con cobertura de nuestra mutua privada de salud. La ropa interior térmica es la que venden en tiendas de deporte para esquiar (mallas y camiseta).
